2008-12-31

Seoul ranked No.1 in this year's evaluation of integrity of 16 self-governing cities and provinces conducted by the Anti-Corruption and Civic Rights Commission.

The evaluation of integrity was conducted by 500 citizens who used services of the self-governing cities and provinces and 100 public officials.

Seoul Metropolitan Government ranked No.1 in overall integrity and scored the highest in the category of firefighting facilities checks.

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon has emphasized improving the integrity of city administration at various meetings and lectures.

To achieve this goal, Seoul Metropolitan Government set this year as the year of zero corruption and in March drew up a comprehensive plan to improve city administration integrity. Civil servants who received money or entertainment were immediately dismissed from their posts.

To improve the integrity of city administration, Seoul Metropolitan Government strictly punished recipients of bribery and entertainment, improved services, instituted continuous monitoring of integrity and formed a taskforce charged with improving integrity.

Seoul Metropolitan Government also ranked No. 1 in an evaluation of corruption prevention policies conducted by the Anti-corruption and Civil Rights Commission. Evaluation of corruption prevention policies was conducted on 85 organizations.
For next year, Seoul Metropolitan Government will focus on achieving transparency in city administration, zero corruption and integrity.

Seoul will also continue to enforce strict punishment on those who take bribes and continue to monitor integrity of its officials. At the same time, the city will improve unreasonable regulations as part of its efforts to achieve integrity.
